چکیده

Introduction Damage via generation of free radicals has been implicated in the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Numerous studies demonstrate both direct and surrogate evidence for a high burden of oxidative and nitrative stress which parallels disease activity. Antioxidants such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) function to protect against oxidative damage by neutralizing free radicals and levels are typically elevated in situations of high oxidative stress.

The Association among Antioxidant Enzymes, Autoantibodies, and Disease Severity Score in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: Comparison of Neuropsychiatric and Nonneuropsychiatric Groups

BACKGROUND Antioxidative capacity plays an important role in the severity of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), which is characterized by autoantibodies. This study aimed to determine the relationship among autoantibody titers, antioxidative stress reserve, and severity of SLE. METHODS The autoantibody titers, clinical markers, antioxidant enzyme levels, and disease activity index (SLEDAI-2k...

PReS-FINAL-2302: Evaluation of magnetic resonance imaging abnormalities in juvenile neuro-psychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus

Introduction Neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE) is a diagnostically challenging, severe, and life-threatening condition. Neuroimaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are increasingly used to assist the diagnosis and monitoring of the disease course in adults with NPSLE. The role of MRI in the evaluation of children and adolescents with suspected juvenile N...

Anticardiolipin Antibodies in Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Background: Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS) can either occur as a primary syndrome or associated with other autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Anticardiolipin antibody (aCL) of IgG and/or IgM isotype in blood, measured by a standardized ELISA is the most acceptable laboratory criteria. APS IgG isotype, particularly IgG2 subclass is more strongly associated ...

Codon 72 Polymorphism of p53 Gene and Hematologic Manifestations in Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus is a systemic autoimmune disorder with unclear etiology. The importance of some genes in the development of systemic lupus erythematosus has been implicated. The gene polymorphism in codon 72 has attracted a lot of attention and its role in the occurrence or progression of many cancers and autoimmune diseases especially systemic lupus erythematosus has ...

Association of HLA-DRB1 Alleles in Juvenile-onset Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) in Iranian Children

Introduction Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune and inflammatory disease. Many studies show HLA alleles can be associated with SLE. The aim of this study was to determine the association of HLA-DRB1 alleles with juvenile- onset in Iranian children. Materials and Methods At a case – control study, 31 children with systemic lupus erythematosus (case group) who referred to ...
